Author Tess Hilmo, from Highland, Utah visited Mrs. McEntire’s and Miss Berger’s third grade classroom.  She wrote the book, With a Name Like Love.  She taught the students about character development, using real life experiences, and explained how the editing process works and explained how she does research for her books.  The students were inspired by her examples and her dedication to teaching students.  Their class highly recommends this book to any student/teacher who enjoys a good mystery. They loved her vivid use of imagery, and enjoyed the many different characters in the book!  She has another book that will be published next spring and she is going to Chicago to research history relating to the Chicago Fire.  We were honored to have her visit us!

The 3rd Annual East Meadows Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser and Safety Fair were held Saturday, April 13, 2013.  Amy Colton and committee did an amazing job providing warm yummy pancakes with fun toppings, such as syrup, whipped topping, M&M’s, chocolate chips, marshmellows, powdered sugar, sprinkles, bananas, strawberries and peaches.  The Safety Fair again featured Spanish Fork Police Department with Officer Sherriff registering bikes and scooters.  The Fire and Ambulance Department let the kids inside the fire truck and ambulance to see around.  The Utah County Health Department provided information on car seat safety.  A few of our 6th grade students were surprised they were not tall enough to be out of a car seat.  A big thank you to Mrs. Andersen, Mrs. Mecham, Miss Lambert, Miss Ostler, Mrs. Hales, Miss Hammari and our wonderful student council for teaching about crossing the street, following road signs, bus safety and blind spots and what to do when they encounter an animal.  Thank you to the PTA members who helped put this fundraiser together.  The money will go directly back to our school to help purchase new technology.
