The Spanish Fork Jr. High School Band visited the sixth-graders at East Meadows on March 13, 2014. Mr. Wendell, the Band teacher, gave them a quick overview of the program. The Jr. High students then played a piece they have been practicing. Some of the students were allowed to touch and play the instruments if they were interested. The SFJH Orchestra also visited the previous day. It is time for the sixth-graders to decide if they want to play in the Band or Orchestra next year.
To help celebrate Dr. Seuss’ Birthday, East Meadows Elementary celebrates by hosting a Dad’s and Doughnuts Activity. As part of the event the PTA donated a new book for each student and supplied over 900 doughnuts. Thank you to all of our dad’s, mom’s, grandparents, teachers and faculty and anyone else who participated or otherwise supported this fun night. Remember to keep reading!
The Young Theater Company from Brigham Young University performed Shakespeare’s play “Cymbeline,” for an assembly today. This play was lightheartedly adapted and directed by Teresa Dayley Love. The students were thrilled as some of our very own children were chosen to be actors and perform on stage. The 2nd and 6th grades enjoyed a workshop put on by the college students.
The students enjoyed a fun-filled Valentine's Day as they exchanged Valentine's and had class parties. East Meadows would like to thank all the parent volunteers that helped in any way with the Valentine Parties.
Three classes went the extra mile and returned the most boxtops for our Box Tops Drive, winning a rootbeer float party. Mrs. Rowland's class was the winner, with Mrs. Hogle's coming in second and Mrs. Aguero's third. We want to thank all the students, parents, and grandparents that take time to clip box tops and send them in with our students. The money received goes directly to our school. Please continue to send them in with your students. Congratulations to our 3 classes!
The Kindergarten through third-grade students at East Meadows Elementary were entertained by puppets, Rocky and Douglas the dinosaurs today at the Dental Health Assembly. In conjunction with our school Science Fair on Wednesday, January 29, the students and faculty enjoyed a reptile assembly. The students were entertained as well as educated. There were several screams, lots of laughter, and many smiles. They enjoyed seeing a tarantula, a scorpion, lizards, tortoises, an alligator, snakes and a giant python. The learned to respect these animals as some of them are very dangerous. They learned about the different habitats and foods these reptiles eat. At the end of the assembly they were even able to touch the giant python.
