Maple Mountain High School's PTSA Service Club visited East Meadows 2nd-graders today March 10.  The PTSA club provides service once a month.  This month we were privileged to have them at our school.  They visited the 2nd grade classes.  They read with the students and performed other activities with them.  After they helped in the classroom, they got to go outside to recess wih them.  They played on the playground equipment, played football, red rover-red rover and other various activities.  Thank you Laura Henry and the other PTSA volunteers for this wo

Students from Maple Mountain High School's Honor Society visited East Meadow's Elementary on March 2 to read to the 1st-3rd grade classes.  They shared several of Dr. Suess' favorite books with our students.  It was a fun event for our kids. Thank You Maple Mountain Honor Society!

Dads gathered up their kids and took them to the annual Dads and Donuts activity at East Meadows Elementary. Those that attended found a comfortable spot to read books and visit with neighbors. Everyone got to grab donuts on the way out. The event was well attended and is a great tradition that many look forward to each year.

On March 2, East Meadows third-grade students and family members watched the annual spelling bee. Eleven students participated in the event. Students spelled third and fourth-grade words with relative ease making this an impressive spelling bee. Congratulations to Bryce Marshall, the spelling bee champ for 2011. Bryce’s name will be engraved on a plaque donated by the Rotary Club. East Meadows thanks the Rotary Club and all who assisted.

Bob and Cindy Wakefield, Brigham Young University representatives, brought their “Buff Don’t Puff” program to East Meadows Elementary. They, along with student athletes, gave a presentation on the dangers of smoking. Students learned that for many serving time in the Utah State Prison their first mistake was choosing to smoke. Smoking can often lead to drinking, drinking leads to drugs, drugs lead to crime, and crime leads to prison. East Meadows wishes to thank the Wakefields for bringing this program to elementary schools.

The East Meadows neighborhood was busy making bread last night. Students shared their bread with family, and members of the community. Many chose to bring their bread to school as a donation. The Provo Food and Care Coalition will receive more than 80 loaves of fresh homemade bread as a result of their efforts. That amount equates to more than 100 pounds of bread and is worth about $190! East Meadows thanks King Arthur Flour for donating the flour and teaching life skills to students.

King Arthur Flour, America’s oldest flour company, went on a mission yesterday to teach students at East Meadows how to bake fresh, nutritious bread from scratch as part of their Life Skills Bread Baking Program. The East Meadows National Honor Society hosted the assembly for 4th, 5th, and 6th-grade students. Students learned about whole grains and how to incorporate them into their diet. King Arthur Flour sent home enough ingredients with each student to make 2 loaves of bread—one to eat at home and one to donate to the Provo Food and Care Coalition or to other members of the community.
