The 2011 Fall 4-H afterschool program at East Meadows Elementary kicked off on September 6. The program is available to first through sixth grade students of the school. The primary goal of 4-H is to assist youth in developing life skills that help them live productive and satisfying lives.
East Meadows held the Reflections Kick-off Assembly today. This year’s theme is “Diversity means . . .” Students can explore and demonstrate what diversity means to them through different mediums such as dance, 3D art, theater, stories and songs. All students are encouraged to participate in Reflections. Entries are due October 5.
East Meadows students are going a little country. Mustang Week kicked off with art projects and western-themed stories. On Wednesday, many students donned western wear. Everyone had a chance to try some line dancing instructed by Katherine Beck. Students will enjoy an assembly tomorrow and finish the week with a field day on Friday.
The 4th grade students at East Meadows once again started off the year making dinosaur dioramas. This is part of their social studies unit. They learn about different species of dinosaurs and their environments and diets. They made the dioramas in shoe boxes. Inside the box they created a scene that would depict what it looked like when dinosaurs roamed the earth. They used colored paper and play dough to make trees, mountains, water, and dinosaurs and anything else they could imagine to portray the scene.
On Thursday, August 18, East Meadows opened the doors to parents and students looking forward to the new school year. Students met their teachers, and got acquainted with their classrooms. Many faces were familiar and some were new. Dwight Liddiard, Principal, would like the students to have a sweet year. This year, teachers and staff will be watching for students that do something sweet and submit their names to the office where they will then get to pick a prize. East Meadows welcomes all students and staff to a great 2011-2012 school year.
