The East Meadows Science Fair was on February 6, 2013. The fifth and sixth grade students have been working really hard the last couple of weeks preparing their project to be judged and displayed.

The 100th Day of School Celebrated!

Today the 28th day of January, 2013 the students at East Meadows celebrated 100 days of school. They were found wearing an assortment of items on shirts, counting a variety of items, reading for 100 minutes and coloring and cutting out 100 goggles. They even had baggies of candy with 100 pieces for each child in the class. It was a fun day for all. It's hard to believe we are more than half way done with another year of school.

BYU Sports Hero Day

Sixth-grade students attended Brigham Young University’s Sports Hero Day, on January 17, 2013. There they met with BYU athlete’s and volunteers who serve as positive role models to children. They talked to them about not giving up on their dreams. One athlete talked about everyday heroes, such as the people that keep our streets and buildings clean. He said it doesn’t matter what job you have as long as it gets done. Everyone of us is a hero.

King Arthur Life Skills Bread Baking Assembly

King Arthur Flour, America’s oldest flour company, came to East Meadows Elementary to teach students how to bake fresh, nutritious bread from scratch as part of their Life Skills Bread Baking Program. The East Meadows National Honor Society hosted the assembly for 4th, 5th, and 6th-grade students. Students learned about whole grains and how to incorporate them into their diet.

All Aboard! The Polar Express!

All aboard! The 1st graders boarded The Polar Express today and paraded through the halls to the North Pole. They had decorated a box to look like a Christmas train car at home. They were served donuts and hot chocolate and watched the movie The Polar Express. Thanks to the parent volunteers who decorated, brought donuts and chocolate milk and helped serve.

Which Teacher Wore the Ugliest Christmas Sweater?

If you came to East Meadows on Tuesday, the 18th of December you probably wondered about the teacher’s sense of style. Many of the teachers and staff wore very festive holiday sweaters to school that day. The wearing of ugly sweaters has become a fun tradition at various work places, parties, school activities, etc. over the past few years. So don’t ever throw away those coveted pieces of clothing. So who won the ugly sweater contest?

Warm the Soles

Congratulations, East Meadows Elementary, you donated $1,001.10 to the Warm the Soles program. The Warm the Soles program is sponsored by Nebo Credit Union. This program allows Nebo Credit Union and its members the wonderful opportunity to provide a new pair of shoes to children in need. They have provided over 2,000 pairs of shoes since it started. The monies have been collected from schools in Nebo, Juab and Tintic School Districts. Thank you students, parents and staff for donating to a wonderful cause.

Gingerbread Houses

East Meadows 2nd graders got to be creative and as they decorated their graham-cracker gingerbread houses. Students got creative with the assorted candies. They made chimneys, trees, fences and even some ponds with fish. This is a fun tradition here at East Meadows for the holiday season. Thanks to all the parents and teachers who volunteered their time and all of that candy and frosting.

Crystal Apple Award

Janell Haskell, our school secretary at East Meadows is the recipient of the Crystal Apple Award for classified employees. The award was presented to Janell by Craig Harvey of Horace Mann Insurance. Janell is an amazing person! She is usually the first one here in the mornings and last one to leave. She is the do all person here at East Meadows. She is helpful to everyone that comes by her desk. She organizes, plans, listens, and counsels, mediates, accounts, and takes care of most anything here at the school. She knows where everything is and how everything works.
