The first grade teachers and students celebrated Christmas by having a Polar Express Day on December 18. The students decorated boxes at home to look like train cars. They brought them to school and paraded through the halls on their way to the North Pole. When arriving at their destination they watched the movie Polar Express while sipping on Hot Cocoa and eating doughnuts. Thank you to all the parent volunteers who made this a magical day for the students. Merry Christmas to All!
One of East Meadow's traditions it is to get together and sing Christmas Carols. Each grade presented a song and the entire school sang it. Principal Gledhill taught the students a new song titled "Winter Star." The student body assembled together today and last Wednesday to sing. Today's treat was the teacher's were all dressed in Ugly Christmas Sweaters. At the conclusion of the assembly the students were asked to applaud for the teacher in each grade with the ugliest sweater.
We have finished up the Warm the Soles Christmas Campaign. We collected $675.55. Thank you to everyone who donated to this wonderful cause. Because of your generosity we are able to help out ten students here at East Meadows and many others throughout the Nebo School District.
The Spanish Fork High School Choir presented a Christmas Carols Assembly for our East Meadows student body today. Listening to or singing Christmas Carols is one of the best ways to get in the Christmas Spirit. We want to thank the SFHS Choir for sharing their talent of singing with us.
The 2nd grade decorated gingerbread houses today, Friday, December 12, 2014. The school cafeteria was turned into a candy shop as parents, students and teachers decorated gingerbread houses made from graham crackers and a variety of candy. This has become one of the fun Holiday Traditions for our second grade classes. We would like to thank all the parents and grandparents that came to help make this a fun and rewarding activity.
East Meadows Chess Club had the following students participate in the Art City Invitaional Chess Tournament: Jackson Alton, Kate Anderson, Koda Begay, Max Fraser, Conner Hamiltion, Grayson Jenkins, Mikel Miles and Parker Simpson. Congratulations to Mikel Miles who won 8th overall individual. We would like to congratulate them on their 10th Place Team Trophy.
Are you looking for a way to help out someone in need this Christmas Season? Each year Nebo Credit Union sponsors the Warm the Soles fundraiser to help provide a new pair of shoes to children in need in our East Meadows Community as well as other schools throughout Nebo School District. Nebo Credit Union has been able to provide over 2500 pair of shoes to children in need since the program began. It's easy to donate, just look around your house for loose change and send it to school with your children. Of course we will not turn down dollar bills if you choose to donate that way. If each students donates $1 we will meet our goal easily. Each classroom has a donation bucket that the student council collects and will donate to Nebo Credit Union for the shoes. This program will benefit students within our very own school. The goal for 2014 is to raise $850. This is a great opportunity for our students to learn about serving and giving back to others. The campaign will run December 1-12. Thank you in advance for all who donate!
One of the favorite Holiday Traditions at East Meadows is the paper craft of stained glass. Years ago Mrs. Laree Liddiard, a retired elementary school teacher, created these creations. She created paper patterns of angels, stockings, wreaths, lanterns and other Christmas designs. These patterns are traced and cut out by the teachers and parents. The students then carefully add tissue paper to finish and the make the deisgn their own creation. The decorations will be placed in the windows at the front of the school for all to enjoy. There are also many other schools in the district who enjoy this activity too.
