1st Grade Boards the Polar Express

Submitted by trisha.olsen on Thu, 12/18/2014 - 13:49

The first grade teachers and students celebrated Christmas by having a Polar Express Day on December 18.  The students decorated boxes at home to look like train cars.  They brought them to school and paraded through the halls on their way to the North Pole.  When arriving at their destination they watched the movie Polar Express while sipping on Hot Cocoa and eating doughnuts.  Thank you to all the parent volunteers who made this a magical day for the students.  Merry Christmas to All!

The student body assembled together today and last Wednesday to sing.  Today's treat was the teacher's were all dressed in Ugly Christmas Sweaters.  At the conclusion of the assembly the students were asked to applaud for the teacher in each grade with the ugliest sweater.

The 2nd grade decorated gingerbread houses today, Friday, December 12, 2014.  The school cafeteria was turned into a candy shop as parents, students and teachers decorated gingerbread houses made from graham crackers and a variety of candy.  This has become one of the fun Holiday Traditions for our second grade classes.  We would like to thank all the parents and grandparents that came to help make this a fun and rewarding activity.

Stained Glass

One of the favorite Holiday Traditions at East Meadows is the paper craft of stained glass.  Years ago Mrs. Laree Liddiard, a retired elementary school teacher, created these creations.  She created paper patterns of angels, stockings, wreaths, lanterns and other Christmas designs.  These patterns are traced and cut out by the teachers and parents.  The students then carefully add tissue paper to finish and the make the deisgn their own creation.  The decorations will be placed in the windows at the front of the school for all to enjoy.
