Irish Dancers

The Shelley Irish School of Dance performed for the students of East Meadows Elementary in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day on Monday the 18th day of March, 2013.  Irish Dance originated in Ireland.  The dancers wore traditional Irish dresses and shoes.  They dance with their legs keeping their arms straight down their sides and little to no movement of the upper body.  They talked with the students about Ireland and St. Patrick’s Day.

The student’s at East Meadows Elementary enjoyed a music filled assembly by “Mamas Wranglers.”  Formerly known as "The Kid Fiddler's." The Jackson Family Band is from Las Vegas, Nevada.  They have traveled all over the United States performing at various venues.  It consists of mom and her children showing their love of music with students.  They encouraged all children to learn to play a musical instrument which has been proven to help in their brain development.  They talked with students about practicing and how important it is to practice.  That is when the benefit of developing the brain happens. The instruments they played were the fiddle, the banjo,  the guitar, the mandolin and the bass guitar.  They sang, yodeled and danced.  Haven Young a student said of the assembly, “it was fun.”  She already plays the guitar.  Most importantly they showed students they can have fun while learning to play music.

Dads and Donuts has become a tradition at East Meadows Elementary.  On Tuesday, March 5, 2013 students and their dad’s, brothers, grandpa’s and even some mom’s filling in packed the hallways and classrooms at the school.  The PTA presented a new book to each student at the school that they brought with them to read or be read too by their dad.  It is always such a treat to see all those at the school reading and spending time with their children.  As the night ended they were treated to a fresh donut also provided by the PTA.  Thank you dads and all the many others that shared their valuable time to spend with our East Meadows Students.  Thank you PTA for supporting such a wonderful program.
