5th Grade Nova Program

The NOVA program is taught to the 5th graders at EM by Officer Leifson of the Spanish Fork Police Department. He teaches the students weekly lessons about choices, consequences, and taking charge of their thoughts, actions, and behaviors. The students got to experience what it might feel like to complete every day tasks under the influence of alcohol. While silly, the students were taught about cause & effect and that consequences follow choices.

Principle #2 – Cause & Effect

When you do something or don’t do something, something happens.

  1. There is a cause and effect to everything in life.
  2. It doesn’t matter what you do or don’t do, there will be a cause and effect.
  3. You are free to make your own choices, but you’re not always free to choose your consequences.
  4. If you choose to use drugs, you don’t get to choose its effects on you. That’s already been decided.

We loved having Mr.Duncan join in on the activity!
