The Nebo School Board of Education appointed Mike Duncan as the Principal of East Meadows Elementary for Nebo School District.

Mike earned his bachelor’s degree in Education from Utah Valley University and his master’s in Education Administration at Southern Utah University.

Mr. Duncan served as the Principal of Cherry Creek Elementary for the past seven years where he successfully implemented the Leader in Me program in 2014. In 2018, Cherry Creek was named a Lighthouse School.

Some of Mr. Duncan’s awards include: Nebo National Distinguished Principal of the Year 2019, Horace Mann Principal of the Year 2018, Nebo Community Leader of the Year 2016, Nebo Student Advocate 2015, and Nebo Rookie Principal of the Year 2014. He was selected as Sage Creek’s Crystal Apple Recipient in 2008.

Mr. Duncan’s educational philosophy consists of the following: “Leadership is communicating people's worth and potential so clearly that they are inspired to see it in themselves.” He believes this is the essence of what outstanding teachers and administrators do each and every day, and that there is no greater calling!

An administrator said, “Mike is innovative, people-oriented, and seeks to learn from others. He is a talented individual with the ability to overcome obstacles and look for positive solutions to problems that would thwart a less determined person. Mike is successful in establishing a genuine and positive relationship with those he leads. He consistently shows exceptional management and leadership skills.”

Serving others is something Mr. Duncan believes in. He said that relationships matter the most, and we should never underestimate the importance of having fun! Mike stated, “My Dad has always reminded me to ‘Enjoy the Journey!’”

Mike enjoys hunting, fishing, golfing, watching sports, and hanging out with family and friends. He especially loves the Boulder Mountain in Southern Utah. Mike is married to Kellie (his ROCK), and they have four children.

“I’m extremely grateful to the wonderful parents, students and staff at Cherry Creek. It has been a life-changing experience, and the memories will stay with me forever.  (#Croc4Life),” said, Mr. Duncan. “I’m super excited for a new adventure at East Meadows, and I look forward to building relationships, having fun and making a difference with a whole new school community. Mustang Pride!”
