Dear Elementary School, Middle School and Junior High School Science Specialists:

We invite you and your students to celebrate National Chemistry Week with the Central Utah Section of the American Chemical Society (ACS) during the week of October 22 - 27, 2018. National Chemistry Week, an outreach program sponsored by the ACS, is designed to enhance the public's awareness of the contributions that chemistry makes to society and to our everyday lives. National Chemistry Week is celebrated yearly in October by ACS local sections. The theme this year is Chemistry is Out of This World!

To help you and your students celebrate National Chemistry Week we would like to make you aware of the following activities that will be sponsored by the Central Utah Section of ACS:

Chemical Magic Shows will be held in the Benson Science Building on BYU's campus as follows: •

Monday, October 22, 5:00 & 6:30 p.m.

Tuesday - Friday, October 23 – 26, 6:30 & 7:30 p.m. Each show will last about one hour. The demonstrations are proven crowd-pleasers illustrating important principles of chemistry. Tickets are free, and we invite all teachers, students, parents, Scout troops, and members of the general public to attend. Since seating is limited, tickets are required. Ticket reservations can be made online at www.chem.byu.edu beginning at noon October 8th. For group reservations (10-20 tickets) please call 801-422-3667 or 801-422-6268. Tickets go fast so reserve yours soon. Feel free to copy this letter and send it home with your students. Kids' Hands-On Chemistry Workshop: Saturday, October 27, 10 am – 12 noon at the Provo Library,

Children's Story Room. This workshop will be filled with fun, safe, hands-on activities. • Resources: The American Chemical Society's website (www.acs.org) has a National Chemistry Week web page

School Demonstrations: We will continue to send BYU students from the ACS student chapter to your •

classroom at your request to make short presentations about chemistry. These are similar to the Chemical Magic Shows, but on a more limited scale. Due to logistical limitations, we will not be able to schedule any of these classroom visits until after National Chemistry Week.
