First graders got an active lesson on electricity. Strawberry Electric (SESD) came to East Meadows with their ‘cantaloupe man’ to demonstrate effects of electricity. Students loved blowing things up, and seeing what would happen to ‘cantaloupe man’ throughout the demonstration. They learned that workers must wear protective gear when working with electricity. The students tried on protective gloves and learned it wasn’t so easy to pick up coins while wearing them. The first graders left the demonstration with a better understanding of the benefits and dangers of electricity.
